Frequently Asked Questions
What happens during a SBS meeting?
During a typical SBS meeting, we have an opportunity to connect with other medical/dental wives and support one another. We usually have some social time to catch up while enjoying snacks, a facilitated discussion about the study or book we're currently reading, and then small group time to share prayer requests and pray for one another.
I'm not sure, I've never been in a Bible study before...
You are not alone! Many women who attend Side By Side have never participated in a bible study before. Whether this is your first Bible study experience or you've been in Bible studies for many years, you are welcome here! Together we will support and encourage each other wherever we are at.
What if I didn't complete the reading for this week? Should I still come?
YES! We want you to come no matter what. We know that life, especially now, is full and unpredictable. Many families are navigating so many changes and we understand that makes it challenging to complete weekly reading. We encourage you to attend so we can pray for, support and encourage you!
Where and when do you meet?
During the summer months, we enjoy getting together for casual socials and playdates. During the academic year, Side By Side typically meets two Wednesdays of each month from 9:15-11:15am at Ann Arbor Christian Reformed Church 1717 Broadway St, Ann Arbor, MI 48105. Fall meeting dates are tentatively as follows: 9/4, 9/18, 10/2, 10/16, 10/30, 11/13, 11/20, 12/4, and 12/18 . Please note some of the weeks we meet change during the holidays. Additionally, we have social events/playdates planned for some of the 'off' weeks.
What is the annual schedule?
We follow the Ann Arbor Public School district academic calendar. If there is a snow day, inclement weather, holiday, etc. we follow the Ann Arbor Public Schools calendar/closures.
What about childcare?
We know quality and caring childcare is so important. Let us reassure you, we are blessed to have the best, experienced, caring and background checked childcare workers! Childcare is provided for babies through preschool aged children during our study meetings. Our preschool aged children participate in a bible-based story time with songs, crafts, activities and stories. If you have older children who are homeschooled, they are welcome to be 'teacher's helpers' in our preschool room on a case by case basis. There is a modest fee for childcare, but please do not let finances keep you from joining us, scholarships are available (email [email protected]).
I'll just be here one or two years, I'm not sure if I should sign up.
Please join us for however long you are in Ann Arbor! We know that medical training means frequent moves as our husbands complete training. No matter how long you are here, we have found that it is WORTH IT to be a part of a supportive community.
My husband is done with training, my children are older and grown, is this still for me?
Definitely! We welcome medical and dental wives of all ages and stages of life, who enrich our community and provide meaningful support for everyone.
Is there a cost?
We are a dues based organization, which helps us provide for events, service projects, administrative costs and support women in our community who have specific needs. There is an additional childcare fee.
I have a specific question.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to us! Our leadership team is more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
